Q&A : Husko Releases New Disco Banger ‘Goodnight’

Maltese-born DJ and producer, Husko returns with his soulful house sound with his latest single ‘Goodnight’. After taking a step back to work on his style and reinvent his sound, Husko has come back with full force following the success of his recent EP ‘Dance Roots’.

Husko has since been a rapid growth with support from top-tier tastemakers and DJ’s from the likes of Annie MacDennis Sulta and Amine Edge – and now, ‘Goodnight’ sees Husko produce an infectious soulful house/nu-disco-leaning track driven by funk styled piano chords and a bassline that would make Daft Punk proud…

Husko has crafted a disco banger that will get anybody moving so much that, prior to its release, it has already been spun by Sarah Story on her Radio 1’s Future Dance show. More than a review, Sidekick Music‘s team had the chance to have a chat with him for the occasion – to discuss the track, music, upcoming releases, and more… Enjoy!

Hey Karl, such a pleasure to have you! So first, could you introduce yourself in a few words?

Hey guys thank you for having me on! My name is Karl but I go by the name of Husko, I’m a House DJ/Producer from the sunny island of Malta and have been doing this professionally for around 3 years now!

We’ve just picked your last gem ‘Goodnight’, groovy one! Could you share an anecdote about it?

Glad you like it! I’m a massive disco lover (wasn’t always like this! My good mate A/P introduced me properly to disco a couple of years back with our collaboration “One Night Stand” and I kind of fell in love with the genre) and I really wanted to create something that captures that day party vibe. They’re a big thing here in Malta especially when foreign festivals come over and there’s just something about a disco track that really gets everyone going.

You’re always experimenting new sounds. Is it important for you not to stick in just one genre?

I’m still trying to find my real sound to be honest, a few years back I was producing strictly tech house but have slowly shifted to a more housy/disco side which I love now! I think it is very important for an artist to have something unique about their sound and I think that I’m slowly getting closer to mine. That being said, it’s always important to experiment with new sounds and keep things fresh.

Now that you have unveiled ‘Goodnight’, what is in store for Husko fans? Any clues that we could get about upcoming releases or collaborations?

I’m so happy with how well Goodnight has been received. I put a lot of love into that record and I think it kind of solidifies the whole Husko sound a little more now. 2022 is looking super interesting; I’ve got a lot of interesting projects coming out and want to keep pushing my sound!

Last but not least: what single night out has been the most memorable for you as a DJ? As an attendee?

Most memorable night as a DJ was definitely opening up for Patrick Topping a few years back at club full to the brim (Including my parents!). Most memorable night as a clubber would have to be Paradise Amsterdam 2019, the sound, the vibe, literally everything was great.
