Following up on 2021’s ’Sinner’ alongside North American crooner Nic Hanson, 2021 sees Moods step away from his precedent of collaborating with some of the most promising voices of the time for a more instrumental take on his signature fusion of soul, R&B, and alternative influences.
As the first single to emerge from his forthcoming instrumental LP, Music Ruined My Life, ‘Talk About It’ sets a strong precedent for Moods’ second full-length offering, which was recorded live in the city of Leiden during the peak of the pandemic. Gentle jazz licks and supple horns accompany the signature grooves that Moods (real name Nick Lubbersen) has become renowned for, offering a more docile but ultimately on-brand incarnation of the musical values the project has built on to date.

“This whole process was a lot of fun”, explains Nick. “Working with a live band just feels a lot more collaborative than anything I have ever really done before. The challenge was to have this record still sound like Moods whilst keeping it live. Some elements of that were easier than others. Picking singles was a struggle, as I see the LP as a journey piece, but there was something about ‘Talk About It’ that really spoke to me in the end”.
